God spoke to be on 12/13/07 in Uruzgan Province. He simply said: “Use grenades” - at a time when we five Americans were about to be surrounded and killed by Taliban. We threw our fragmentation grenades, they exploded and we had a few second in which to escape. All of us survived without a scratch.

I believe it. I'm glad you survived. Several teachers I've learned from claim to be pacifists. They make a good argument about following Christ to the cross. But when a little girl fought back against an drug addled guy with a knife, rampaging through the neighborhood, and a regular guy finally stopped him, I had to wonder if pacifism is always the right answer.

I don’t believe in starting fights - but, I will surely finish one. I was also a state (of Georgia) law enforcement officer. Who do pacifists think deals with “Bad Guys?”

I hear you on finishing the fight. Thank you for your service to the US and the state of Georgia. I don’t know who they think deals with bad guys. I’ve been reading Dominion which shows the history of Christianity and its influence on Western civilization. It’s fascinating to see trends like pacifism come and go.

A wonderful reflection; thanks so much for sharing. I love that quote from 'Till We Have Faces' -- one of my favourites from C S Lewis's books.

Till We Have Faces is one of my favorite books as well. He talks about exchange, which Charles Williams talked about, but we rarely hear about these days. It's a stunning ending. And so true how we can mistake possessiveness and control for love. Thank you so much for reading and commenting.
