We hear the sky tractors before we see them. They are loud and pulse. They can be a few miles away and we still know the crop dusters are working. We wondered what they were spraying this late in the season. The corn has tassled. Kevin Jensen, who was born and raised as a Nebraska farmer said they were spraying Furadan to kill the grasshoppers. I've read how grasshoppers can swarm so intensely they eat everything that is green, leaving dust, and a heartbroken, starving farmer. Even last year, I heard reports of this from western farmers.
This article touched my heart as at times, I lament the “damage” we do in order to do the Good. I witnessed one of those little yellow planes spraying for gypsy moths in my area one morning. I watched and wondered what else died that day.
We dance on a fine line that requires us to stay closely aligned with our Savior for guidance every step of the way. Thanks, Katie for a beautiful reminder!
