Thank you for your thoughts, Katie. Jesus' last gift to His disciples was His' command to love as He loves us. He told them He was going where they couldn't go and His first words after that statement: I give you a new commandment: love as I have loved you. I am beginning to let Him do that through me to the 'least of these', and sometimes just to those I live with. Don't you think the Holy Spirit will some way let us know of what the 'other' truly needs? The best surprise in the day is when we can give love to someone else when we didn't expect it could or would happen.

Thank you for saying that helping the elderly, sick, and infirm is a good deed and not a “should.” I’m tempted to scorn some of the elderly I transport. Especially those that have advanced dementia. I have a hard time finding the “person” in them. I know and get the sense that they are like babies again, but I struggle against the thought “babies with baggage.”

Your words on loneliness are present for me. I know a brother at my church who is lonely. He reminds me of a puppy sometimes: cheerfully coming up to me and saying, something too loud, Christ is risen! He has a minor social delay, and boy does he remind me of my blood brother! He needs attention and I’m trying to live by “if you haven’t been fed become bread.”

I hope your air clears up and strength returns to your legs.
