These days it feels like our society’s fabric is tearing so badly I can no longer read a book like I Cheerfully Refuse. Leif Enger’s dystopian novel, gives me nightmares because it’s too close to what life might be like in the very near future.
Thank you for listening to my voice. I'm tempted to play around with the voice part of Substack here! Yes there are more with us and many, many righteous people here. I think of Abraham's intercession over Sodom and how we can intercede for this country, for the western world...
I hadn't thought of it that way, but perhaps there is. My first thought is: Jordan Peterson's podcasts: "The Sins of Adam and the True Nature of Eve" is like that. It's pretty remarkable. Ohhh his discussion with Alex O Connor "Navigating Belief, Skepticism and the Afterlife" is the one I was thinking about that is like intercession. I think Jonathan Pageau has a podcast responding to that one which I have not listened to. But I want to think more on this. Can you say more of your thoughts on this?
Just that there’s long been a connection between work, prayer, poetry and the prophetic voice (meaning here simply one that points the way, as in the examples you cite [though I haven’t listened to them all, but trust your take on them]). I think you also contain all of those things. So what you create would be an intercession, I think, just as you say. The podcasting simply allows a new medium of expression for you, perhaps.... your recorded voice felt natural, like you belonged in that realm.
Well, maybe I'll try it. That's quite a lovely blessing too. Thank you. Been getting several of those lately, kind of like a naming. There's a wonderful passage in David Whyte's The Heart Aroused about voice. Maybe I'll pull that out and write about that...One of the greatest insights came when a therapist noted I'd come from a silencing family. That opened up so much for me...
Majik led me to this, so, thank you, Majik, and thank you, Katie! I really needed this today, now. May your good words be absorbed reflected back to keep inspiring you!
Oh my goodness, Katie! This might be the most beautiful and spiritually encouraging thing that I've ever read for our own "such a time as this." I think it is. I'm going to share it on Karen's Facebook and link it into the post that you're inspiring me to write now. Thank you for letting His Holy Spirit speak to us through you!
I really enjoyed hearing you read the first section of this for the public radio station! We need voices of hope.
There are indeed "more with us," just as that rain is surely coming. Thank you for the beautifully written piece and the reminders.

I am so glad this encouraged you. You’re very welcome and thank you for reading this.

Thank you so much. This is very high praise. You’re very welcome. Did you recognize someone in the first part???
Yes, I did. I felt honored and humbled and also affirmed to be one example that you referenced. Thank you.
You’re welcome.
